Sunday Evening: We are here!! Having problems with uploading so be patient. Homer
had vehicle problems right before Liberty and had to turn around. He ended up taking
Barb's vehicle. Sorry, Barb. Monday Morning. We are up and moving and I finally got connected to the internet on my computer, matter of moving ten feet in the room to get on wireless. We will try to get some pictures on the web today of where we are and what we are doing. Check back later today. HOMER Here is the first video: MONDAY EVENING VIDEO WE FINALLY GOT THE VIDEO PUBLISHED. ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Monday Evening. Wow!! What a day we had.
HOT. I am exhausted but it was a good day. TUESDAY VIDEO VIDEO IS DONE. ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tuesday Evening. I get a hard time here for writing so much but I tell them if I were at home, I would want to hear all about it. Guess what? It was very hot again today. I know it is hot back home but understand that most of us are working in the direct sun so it is hotter here. It pretty much whooped all of us today. Even the computers wouldn't work today. They were feeling wilted like us. The girls and Kellie finished the book shelves. Barb and Nancy finished planting the plants in the freshly weeded garden. They still have some seeds to plant. The men got the fence started. I got some scraping done on a deck. And Pam and Becky cooked dinner for 80 people who were our guests for dinner. They did a fantastic job. It was great to have the boys here and the other group from New Mexico. The youth then went and played dodge ball and kick ball. Larry leads that stuff really well! Pam, Becky and I had to go to Dollar General down the road after lunch. When we got back I didn't see my crew anywhere. Was pretty sure when I opened that bedroom door they would all be in there. Sure enough they were all passed out in bed at 2 in the afternoon. I promptly joined them. Pictures are coming but probably no narration. It's late, the kids are still out playing. The girls are becoming quite good friends with the independent living boys. Our boys would except they are working about a half mile away. So darn, the girls just have to take care of that. The girls go refill their water bottles for them and take them every snack that Pam has made in the kitchen. And more and more of those boys keep coming out of their house. Don't worry, they are being supervised on both ends. This would be the "different part "that didn't happen when Homer was here before. Independent Living sure has its up side. Time to go to bed if Larry would just let the kids come inside. That man has no end to his energy. He was tilling the garden at 10 o'clock last night. Good night! Liz P.S. We aren't going to bed anytime soon. The transformer blew and we have no electricity in our gym and bunk house. The good news is that we do have electricity in the kitchen and dining room. We may all be sleeping in here tonight. But we'll wait up for a bit to see. We are all very slap happy. Wednesday Evening. We are moving slower and slower, well at least I am. My group got little accomplished today (a lack of supplies not a lack of effort) but at least they rested. I power washed and am sure there is a picture going up. Tomorrow we will paint. All we have to do is find some paint brushes. The fence, I hear is going well. Maybe we will take a field trip there tonight and see what it looks like. The pictures must be good tonight cause there is a lot of screaming going on at that computer. We have a great group of youth. I have lots to tell. Midnight was when we got electricity last night so we are all sitting here yawning. The women had a giggle session once we got in bed and the girls were so tired that we were getting yelled at. There is something backwards about that! Any way, we will all sleep well tonight. Tomorrow is our last day of work. Friday is our play day. The kids went swimming at the lake and pool today. They have both at the state park down the road. Dinner is ready! Bye. Liz Thursday Evening. WOW! We have been finishing up around here. Trying to at least. It is hard for the men to leave a project unfinished. So at 7:30 tonight they are still hanging shelves in the new library. What a fantastic job everyone did. Our group has worked so hard and accomplished a lot. We are getting ready to go tour what we did. The video today will show a little. The fence got finished except for the hanging of the gates and they had the wrong hinges, they thought, to do it right. Larry took the kids out on the lake today. And Barb and Nancy. Larry is great with youth. It is amazing to watch his patience and attitude. I really did work today even though it doesn't seem like it. I had to take off my shoes and go paint the railings that Jessica and Morgan forgot to do as they painted the floor. Then I had to go over my path. The girls all did a great job though and we finished before noon so that they could go boat riding in the afternoon. The boys worked harder than I ever would have imagined. We have lots of stories to tell and can't wait to tell everyone. I am truly proud of this group of people and I think Larry really likes them too! Time for worship! Goodnight. Liz With time being short we are publishing a slide show of what was happening today. Everyone except Homer, Sam & Becky Hartman, and Pam Bessmer went down the Illinois River rafting while the other four went to the Cherokee Heritage Center for a guided tour of a mock village. It is 4pm and we are leaving at 4:30 pm to go back to the Cherokee Heritage Center for an outdoor theatre after we eat BBQ at Tahlequah, OK. You can see the pictures in the clip above. Liz may add more later. HOMER Friday Late Evening. It is 10:30 p.m. and we have just returned from a busy day of floating and going to the Cherokee Heritage Center Performance. We are ending our time here. We have had a great time here even though all of us have worked incredibly hard and sweated more than we have in a long time. The boys say they have never sweated this much! Everyone wants to know when we are leaving tomorrow. We will get up and have breakfast at 7 a.m. Then we must pack and clean the kitchen, dining room, gym, bedrooms and bathrooms. When we have finished all that we will leave. I would hope to be gone by 10 to 11 am. Hopefully closer to 10 am. I will have the youth let you know when we leave and then call when we get closer with an expected arrival time. I do hope to be home by 6 pm. This is the last posting of our mission trip. Thank you for all your prayers and support. I will be there Sunday morning to give a small report. Hope to see you all there. Signing off from the UM Boy's Ranch. Liz Sunday Afternoon. I hope that all of the group is resting today. I just wanted to put one last posting to thank everyone. I get worried that I may have missed someone in service this morning. This group worked so hard and I really am so proud. Thanks to Pam and Becky for cooking all of our meals for us and for the large group that we had on Tuesday night. They were up at the crack of dawn and there until after we ate dinner. We truly appreciated the great food that you provided for us. Thank you to Nancy and Barb for all their dedication in the vegetable and flower gardens. They had one hot job in the direct sun. They are going to have some good eating because of the two of you. Thank you to Kellie for working with the girls to get all those shelves stained and polyurethaned for their new library; and all the cleaning and painting on the wall. Thanks to Katelyn, Molly, Morgan and Jessica for lugging those shelves and staining them; and for painting the deck, stairs and wall. Thank you to Gregg and Gary for getting us all lined out on our jobs and helping us to know what to do and for their hard work on the fence and putting the shelves in the library.. Their expertise helped us to accomplish all that we did. Thanks to Sam, and Homer for being with the boys down the road and getting that fence up. That was a big job and I know that Larry is very thankful. They also fixed a water leak while they were down there. They probably did other things but I don't know them all. Thanks to Tucker, Sam, Cody, Briar, Brady and Joshua for all of their hard labor. They followed directions well and accomplished a very hard and hot job. Larry said you were all very dedicated workers and I for one am very proud of what we accomplished and proud of each one of you. Thank you to all of the church for praying for us and thinking of us all week. We were glad that we could keep you posted on all that we were doing. And thank you God for allowing all this to happen and for keeping all of us safe this past week. Until next year. Liz |
